The Big Test

Blow

Gareth Bale is out of Wales clash with Spain tonight. He was substituted after 80 minutes against Alaves last weekend. Wales manager Ryan Giggs confirmed yesterday that Bale was definitely out, and only 50/50 for the Nations League tie against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday. Wales will have to do it without their talisman against a team that beat England at Wembley and thumped World Cup finalists Croatia 6-0 last month.

“Gareth has got a little bit of muscle fatigue and he won’t be involved against Spain,” Giggs said. “We don’t want to take any risks and we are monitoring it every day.”

“He had a scan last week, a couple of weeks ago with Real Madrid. We re-scanned it and have done everything we can to get as much information. He feels good but we have to weigh up the risk whether he can be part of the game on Tuesday.”

Giggs confirmed that they talk to Real Madrid, and to other clubs about players.

“If he’s available, he’s available. The medical team are in dialogue with Madrid like they are with every team.

“When you have niggly injuries, it’s maybe at the back of your mind until you’re flying again, but I’ not worried and Gareth’s not worried.”

Giggs expects Bale to feature in Real Madrid’s next match against Levante at the weekend.

The Big Three

Wales’ captain Ashley Williams confirmed that despite being unable to play Bale was playing a part, and that he understood Giggs’ reasons for leaving him out against Denmark. Williams will captain the team against Spain. He’s impressed by the strength of the Welsh squad. Ramsey will play and have the chance to put his club concerns behind him.

Aaron Ramsey won’t be offered a new contract by Arsenal. But was that a distraction to Giggs? “It hasn’t been,” he said.

“It wasn’t in the last campaign and it hasn’t been this campaign, so Aaron enjoys meeting up.

“As far as contract talks, I don’t really want to get into that. When he’s here, he’s my player.

“Like always he loves being here; he loves playing for his country and he’s a very good to have around the dressing room and in the camp in general, so it hasn’t affected him from my point of view.”
