Concern

Newly promoted Watfordʼs final friendly before the Premier League starts a week from now gave new boss Quique Sánchez Flores food for thought. His opposite number Unai Emery Etxegoien had even more to ponder following a serious head injury to Italian striker Ciro Immobile. A collision with keeper Heurelho Gomes left the former Torino striker requiring oxygen just six minutes into the friendly.

A concerned Gomes and Sevillaʼs Vitolo immediately signalled for medical assistance for the stricken player. Immobile, on loan for the season from Borussia Dortmund after failing to make an impact in Germany, was taken from the field in a neck brace on a stretcher. He was replaced after 8 minutes by Juan Muñoz Muñoz. Immobile was taken straight to hospital last night.

Today he let fans know that he was okay through social media.

Hindsight

Sevillaʼs new signing, the talented Ukrainian Yevhen Konoplyanka was fouled and wanted to take the free-kick quickly, but referee Kevin Friend wouldnʼt have it. With hindsight, perhaps it should have been allowed to flow. After all Konoplyanka was the one sinned against, so why shouldnʼt he be allowed to take it quickly?

Former Manchester City prospect Denis Suárez Fernádez curled the retaken free-kick into the area from the left flank. Former Spurs keeper Gomes had every right to challenge. The collision left Immobile needing attention.

The Italian and Sevilla will hope for a quick recovery as he seeks to restore confidence and rebuild his career after an unsuccessful transfer to Germany that has seen new Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel, who took over after the departure of Dortmund legend Jürgen Klopp, from the send him out on loan just a year after his much-heralded arrival.
