Revenge – The First Course

By Jacob Aborvor © Jacob Aborvor (September 24th 2017

Niger was one of the teams given little chance in the tournament but they confounded the ‘experts’. With just under half an hour played Oumar Tchomogo’s Bénin, who had inflicted a late 2-1 defeat on Niger to qualify for the semi-finals went behind courtesy of Iddrissa Halidou’s goal.

With 5 minutes remaining revenge seemed assured when the danger-man Victorien Adebayor doubled their lead, but with time running out Nabil Yarou halved the deficit. It proved to be just a consolation though as Niger held on to claim third place.

Closing Ceremony

The apertiser over, the closing ceremony began, featuring cultural dancing from all the participating countries and acrobatics too. But before the main course there were speeches from Ghana’s Vice president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Barry Lambert of FOXSport Africa – the sponsor), Kwesi Nyantakyi the President of Ghana’s FA and Ahmad Ahmad the President of CAF.
