England Manager Gareth Southgate has named his 23-man squad that will represent the Three Lion’s at this Summer’s World Cup in Russia

Uncapped 19-year-old Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has received his first call up after impressing for Champions League finalists Liverpool. Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has been recalled and there are also places for Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea) and Burnley’s Nick Pope. There is also a recall from Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck, who will head to Russia as England’s top scorer within the squad.

Notable exclusions include experienced  goalkeeper Joe Hart who started the qualifying campaign as England’s Number one goalkeeper. Also missing out is midfielder Jack Wilshere who had impressed for Arsenal this season as well as another regular squad member, left-back; Ryan Bertrand.

Joe Hart – omitted from the England squad for Russia 2018.

England start their Group G campaign against Tunisia on 18 June, before games against Panama and Belgium.

Having recently returned from injury, Liverpool’s midfielder Adam Lallana is one of five players on standby for the tournament, along with Burnley keeper Tom Heaton, Clarets defender James Tarkowski, Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook and fellow midfielder Jake Livermore of West Brom.

“I believe this is a squad we can be excited about,” Southgate said.

“It is a young group but with some really important senior players, so I feel the balance of the squad is good, both in terms of its experience, its character and also the positional balance.”
