Moyes gone after 6 months

David Moyes has left his job as manager of West Ham United, after just over six months in charge despite guiding the club to Premier League survival.

Moyes, 55, took over from Slaven Bilic on a short-term contract in November with the club in the relegation zone. He guided West Ham to safety with two games to spare and finished 13th in the Premier League. However, his short-term contract was not renewed after Moyes met with senior figures at the club on Monday.

“When David and his team arrived, it was the wish of both parties that the focus be only on the six months until the end of the season, at which point a decision would be made with regards to the future,” said West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan.

“We feel that it is right to move in a different direction. We aim to appoint a high-calibre figure who we feel will lead the club into an exciting future for our loyal supporters within the next 10 days.”

Moyes’ assistants Alan Irvine, Stuart Pearce and Billy McKinlay have also left with immediate effect.

What next for Moyes?

After signing a 6-year deal with Manchester United, he has now either been sacked or left Real Sociedad, Sunderland and now West Ham. He would still have a year left to run on that original deal. His next move is crucial, however it can not be denied, the 6-month stint at West Ham has gone some way to rebuilding his reputation. Moyes regularly reminds journalists about his Premier League win record being one of the best around. He will no doubt have offers, whether they will be at team challenging boards the top end of the table, remains to be seen.
